Peterson Regional Medical Center is the only facility in the region to offer a comprehensive Wound Care Center for patients with wounds not yet healing. In a special setting at our Ambulatory Care Center, Medical Director, Lori Gagnon, M.D., leads a team of wound care experts who are highly skilled at guiding you through the specialized hyperbaric oxygen chambers.
The Wound Healing Center's onsite diagnostic lab and diagnostic radiology services assist in identifying the reasons behind healing impairment of wounds including:
- Diabetic ulcers
- Pressure sores
- Venous stasis ulcers
- Non-healing surgical wounds
- Wounds complicated by infections
- Crush injury
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing 100% oxygen while the body is under greater than normal atmospheric pressure. Delivered inside a comfortable see-through chamber, a specially trained technician gently guides the patient throughout the pressurization.
What sets this therapy apart? Wound improvement with hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases oxygen to tissue via the bloodstream; an increase in white blood cell production and in the ability to fight infection. Our Wound Healing Center follows Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) guidelines when delivering this treatment to patients. The UHMS is an internationally recognized, non-profit organization serving over 2,500 members in more than 50 countries.
